Festival in The Square
24 June | 11am – 7pm
Venue: The Square
Music, dance and street theatre for all to enjoy.
Join us for a fabulous day of workshops and performances for all the family bringing joy and vitality to the streets of Grassington.
Families are invited to participate in Splat Anatomy, where their wits as well as their hand and eye coordination will be tested on a life sized game of ‘Operation’. Wearing a mask and apron, the challenge is to remove the organs and bones from a life sized anatomical model without touching the sensitive copper nerves.
Audiences will also be excited and uplifted (quite literally) by the amazing Strong Lady. a genuine strong woman, Betty Brawn presents an astonishing array of demonstrations of strength, all performed with the elegance of a true Strong Lady.
Plus an energetic performance by The Baghdaddies, whose exuberant brand of world music is an exhilarating cocktail of Balkan melodies, ska and latin grooves and sizzling brass played with furious energy and theatrical humour.
Performing as part of the early evening line up will be 14 year old local girl, Niamh. 2016 was an amazing year for Niamh. She was nominated for Best of British Unsigned Music Awards for her song Can’t Stand This Anymore, which achieved runner-up and also ‘Record of the Week’ on the ‘BBC Introducing’ programme.
In the Autumn of last year, Niamh began writing her new track Love Drug and was extremely excited to record it with Bassist Dave Swift, Saxophonist Derek Nash from Jools Holland’s Rhythm & Blues Orchestra, Drummer Derby Todd from The Darkness and local musician Gaz Keeton from Blue Star Tattoo based in Glusburn.
Niamh is clearly destined for great things and this will be a perfect opportunity to join her and her band in the intimate yet vibrant setting of Grassington Square.
Guaranteed to get everyone up and dancing, The Flaming Hearts will get the evening off to a great start. An exciting original and covers band from Lancashire, whose influences include Rock / Indy / Funk and Soul, The Flaming Hearts will play an eclectic mix of tracks through the eras up to the present day.
