We are thrilled to announce  the first acts scheduled to perform at Grassington Festival 2019’s!

On Sunday 23rdJune, three time BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winners The Young’uns will present “The Ballad of Johnny Longstaff” – a new and unique piece of modern folk theatre, telling the true tale of one man’s adventure from begging on the streets in the north of England to fighting against fascism in the Spanish Civil War, taking in the Hunger Marches and the Battle of Cable Street. The Young’uns trademark harmonies weave between the real recorded voice of Johnny himself to tell a remarkable human story oozing with modern relevance. Not to be missed.

Folk fans are spoilt for choice, with the opportunity to see multi-award-winning Irish folk singer Cara Dillon on Tuesday 25thJune.  Described by Mojo Magazine as possessing “what may well be the world’s most beautiful female voice”, and with self-professed fans including Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith, this is a fantastic chance to catch a very intimate performance in the Festival Hall.

The first Classical music offering to be announced is the annual Festival Gala Concert, this year featuring the exciting new Borealis Choir, a superb eight piece a cappella vocal group from West Yorkshire. The concert will take place on Sunday 23rdJune at Bolton Priory Church.

And if you’re looking to put on your dancing shoes, look no further than Friday 28thJune, when Dave Finnegan’s Commitments take to the Festival Hall stage. This nine piece soul band, fronted by the only original cast member still performing, will get the crowd going performing hits from the likes of Otis Reading and Wilson Pickett.
