Towering over the village green in Linton, near Grassington, is the Fountaine Hospital – a Baroque almshouse, unique in Britain.
Many people are fascinated by the imposing building, and by the enigmas and myths that surround its founder and its architect. Jane Houlton, local author of a new book “An Almshouse for Linton – Richard Fountaine’s Legacy”, will tell us the engaging story of its origins and unravel the mysteries for us.
This is an engaging story of a remarkable building and there are few that do not stop and wonder about it as they look across at it from the village green in Linton.
